Jaws 2 (1978)
Sequel to the 1975 (1st) summer blockbuster, a tepid, low-key thriller about a 2nd superior great white shark terrorizing a small seacoast community, but with no sense of wonder or actual terror. Roy Scheider returns to again star as the besieged chief cop Brody, and with slightly expanded roles for his wife (Lorraine Gary) and the weasel mayor (Murray Hamilton). Missing both Robert Shaw as the shark hunter and Richard Dreyfuss as the shark expert is not this film's only drawback. It's slow and uneventful, culminating in a threat to a bunch of young people out boating, and a confrontation with a helicopter (ironically, already done better in the Jaws cash-in Grizzly '76). The next one was Jaws 3-D (1983). BoG's score: 5 out of 10
Jaws Trivia: directed by Jeannot Szwarc, who had directed Bug (1975), the monster film which opened on the same day as the first Jaws film.
