They're all here - the big all-star cast, complete with cliches, in the next-to-last Irwin Allen disaster bonanza, a sequel to his own The Poseidon Adventure (1972). In that previous film, a luxury liner was turned over by a huge tidal wave (there's stock footage of this event at the start of this film); there were a few survivors who made there way out. Now we return to the overturned ship, which is slowly sinking...

There are still a few survivors inside the ship; then there's a 3-person salvage team led by Caine; then there's another less-scrupulous group arriving led by Savalas, who hams it up as almost a Bond-like villain (maybe thinking about On Her Majesty's Secret Service/'69).   tongue

The drawbacks to this sequel are evident in the first scenes: Caine's tugboat is shot in front of poor backscreen of the raging storm, as someone throws buckets of water on the boat to make it look like waves; Field's character joins Caine in the wheelhouse, takes out a rifle for some reason and breaks a window. Is she brain-damaged? Maybe. Caine was probably offered a lot of money by Allen to star in this and the previous The Swarm; he didn't seem to help the box office. Malden plays Caine's buddy and seems to be dying of bad health almost from the beginning; Boyle's character yells all his dialog, first searching for his daughter, then just generally upset; Veronica Hamel, who ends up as in the most interesting role, would return in Allen's When Time Ran Out... (1980). And, that is the same Cartwright who was in the Lost in Space show in the sixties; there are rumors that she hated this film; perhaps it derailed her career..?  Question  Suspect  It was a box office bust.  BoG's Score: 3 out of 10
