Now famous story of killer plants invading the Earth just after most of the populace has gone blind due to watching a meteor shower...
The focus is more on the blindness than the triffids, and the best scenes are those that depict the resulting helplessness, desperation, and perniciousness. Realistically, the few remaining sighted people are divided between good folks helping the helpless and bad folks taking advantage of them. And always in the background are the triffids, dragging themselves by their roots. They look more weird than scary , covered with dirt, spikes, and tendrils. I was gratified that they did not resemble humanoids, and also that they were not simply hoses manipulated by obvious wires poking out of stumps (an all-too-familiar image from 1950s alien carnivorous plant scenes).

Goldweber, David Elroy (2012-06-14). Claws & Saucers: Science Fiction, Horror, and Fantasy Film: A Complete Guide: 1902-1982 (Kindle Locations 17455-17460). David E. Goldweber. Kindle Edition.

Triffids Trivia: based on the 1951 novel by John Wyndham, who also wrote the book on which Village of the Damned (1960) was based; Triffids was also remade as a TV mini-series twice, in 1981 and 2009.
