This was the first reunion TV movie featuring Steve Austin (Lee Majors) and Jaime Sommers (Lindsay Wagner), the Bionic Woman - from the series The Six Million Dollar Man (1973-78) and The Bionic Woman (76-78).  It's about a decade later; Austin has retired and bought himself a charter boat business.  Jaime is working elsewhere as a counselor.  An international criminal organization named Fortress is causing Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) some concern and he asks Austin to return to the fold, but Austin refuses. Then we are made aware of Austin's son.  His son? What son?  Question  According to this movie, Austin was briefly married just out of college and sired a son; Austin divorced and his ex-wife suddenly died soon after of pneumonia. The son was raised by Austin's sister-in-law.  The son is now also in the Air Force and a pilot, just about to graduate.

We can guess where this is going: Austin's son crashes a jet in almost the exact same way as Austin did and gets the same crippling injuries.  Rudy Wells (Martin E. Brooks) performs the same operation, only the mechanics have improved since Austin's time and the son is soon able to run in excess of 200 mph.  He's also outfitted with an eye that can shoot a laser beam (could come in handy).  Rolling Eyes   In the meantime, Austin gets reacquainted with Jaime, whose memory had been restored during one of her last missions. They eventually all team up to defeat the bad guys. Martin Landau plays the main heavy, an old enemy of Austin's, and there's also Gary Lockwood as a double agent.  This isn't too bad - maybe a bit goofy - and had good ratings (there was a follow-up TV movie in '89, The Bionic Showdown), though the score is terrible and there are awful background songs.  BoG's Score: 6.5 out of 10

Bionic Trivia: very early small role for Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as a doctor in one scene.
Lee Majors' son, Lee Majors II, has the supporting role of a young OSI agent; he returns in the follow-up movies.
Lockwood had guest-starred in a couple of Six Million Dollar Man episodes as an assassin, one of the rare return villains.
Star Trek TOS Actor Alert: Lockwood had guest-starred in the 2nd pilot episode, Where No Man Has Gone Before;
also appearing in this TV Movie as a general is William Campbell, who played Trelane in The Squire of Gothos.
