episode #45 - The Girl From the Green Dimension
episode #45 / Air Date: 1/4/67 (episode #16 of 2nd season)
written by Peter Packer; Directed by Nathan Juran
Yikers, we're back to dreck with the 1st episode broadcast in 1967 - not a propitious start to the year for fans of the show. This features the return of the alien green lady from Wild Adventure, which was another bad episode. She's named here as Athena (Vitina Marcus) and seems to have a crush on Dr. Smith - she likes how he wiggles his nose . Athena can get pretty tiresome after a couple of minutes with all her cooing, swaying and baby talk; but, we're stuck with her for almost the full episode this time.
Another green alien shows up - male - looking like a crazed Viking; he's called Urso; he mostly grunts and yells; he seems to be an ex-boyfriend of Athena and doesn't like Smith. I think he challenges Smith to a fight and, to make sure it happens, he turns Will green; Mom & Dad aren't too pleased - it won't wash off! There follows a lot of interminable slapstick, with Urso chasing Smith around the big telescope. Other scenes are simply a bore, with one slightly humorous moment when it looks like the Robinsons are burying Smith. An utterly useless and embarrassing episode by any standard. BoG's Score: 2 out of 10
Epilogue Tag: the Robot fixes their atomic regulator as Will & Smith look on; suddenly, a trumpet sounds and a knight in armor runs into the scene... freeze frame!
