episode #51 - Hocus Pocus
episode #16 of 3rd season / Air Date: 1/18/76 written by Richard Carr Directed by Barney Crane
This featured the return of Audrey (Robbie Lee), the young lady with strong ESP powers from the episode The E.S.P. Spy. Austin actually gets the idea to contact her to help out in his latest mission. A rich and paranoid criminal (Pernell Roberts) has a stolen codebook which OSI needs to find; the criminal is also fascinated by the occult. So, Austin's 'in' will be a magic show to make the villain stand up and take notice; between Austin's bionics and Audrey's telepathy, the villain should be suitably impressed.
This one was pretty entertaining; it makes you wonder what tricks Austin & Audrey will pull off to snow the villain. Roberts played the crook flamboyantly and with a sinister yet cheerful air; his reactions to the magic and his interaction with the two agents were very well done. Robbie Lee, again, presented an unusual, beguiling character; she comes across like a little girl in most scenes but reveals a strength of will and a resolve when the going gets tough. This all reminded me of some Mission:Impossible episodes, especially the ones in which Phelps brings in a specialist we don't normally see, as Austin does here. BoG's Score: 6.5 out of 10
Bionic Trivia: Jack Colvin returns for another role on the show after appearing in Look Alike; he would soon have a regular role on the Incredible Hulk series.
