episode #07 - Jaime's Mother
episode #7 of 1st season / Air Date: 3/24/76 written by Worley Thorne Directed by Leo Penn
Motherhood is examined in this episode. Both of Jamie's real parents died long ago - that's why Steve Austin's parents act as her foster parents. But now it looks like Jaime's mom (Barbara Rush) is back, being chased by enemy agents, and the person buried in the grave is probably a double that worked for the government back then. Or is it..? That's the hook of the story - is it really Jaime's mom? Jaime comes to think so by the midpoint, showing off her bionic jumping abilities to the woman, and she's given some revelations about her family history by Oscar Goldman that further rock her boat. And, watch out for double agents..!
This episode is awkward in some ways - I didn't see the point in some of the mystifying early scenes, such as Jaime's sudden dreams and the mystery woman driving away just as Jaime sees her in the distance; these all seem to be a contrivance, lending a false air of mystery. Some facts just do not jibe, the top one being the family dog, Puzzles, who is still alive and must be 20 years old. But, Martha Scott is still here as Jaime's foster mom and this gives her character a chance to shine. There's also the suggestion that Jaime still has a ways to go in getting past all her head problems. BoG's Score: 5.5 out of 10
