episode #21 - Children of Spider County
Air Date: 2/17/64 writer: Anthony Lawrence Director: Leonard Horn
Four young geniuses have suddenly disappeared, alarming the U.S. government. A government agent (John Milford) has determined that all four were born at the same time, in the same county (the county of the title). There is a 5th (Lee Kinsolving) young superior man; he's wanted by the authorities but never left the county. Now, his father (Kent Smith) has shown up, eager to take his son home. However, this home is very far away... like in another galaxy
This has similarities to the Village of the Damned/Children of the Damned films, as well as I Married a Monster From Outer Space (1958), involving alien interaction with Earth females for the purpose of procreation. The alien father occasionally changes to his true appearance (see above pic) and has the power to "uncreate" people; that's his description as a counter to the charge of murder - rather strange. It's all like a typical fifties encounter-with-advanced-aliens movie, just in shorter form. It also is similar to the later episode, Keeper of the Purple Twilight, in that aliens may find themselves more human than first thought after experiencing our lifestyle - America-centric? BoG's Score: 6.5 out of 10
Outer Trivia: near the beginning of this episode, the government man refers to the "Krell" galaxy, which seems like an homage to Forbidden Planet (1956)
