episode #02 - Survival of the Fittest
Air Date:1/25/74 written by Mann Rubin, story by Lionel Siegel, Harve Bennett; Directed by Leslie Martinson
This one had some ambitious plotting for a TV episode - it starts out as an Airport-style disaster story when the airplane which Austin and Oscar Goldman are in is damaged by a lightning strike and then becomes a survival tale on an island (of course, the coastline looks like CA near L.A. somewhere, but maybe that's just me). Further, the plot includes assassins out to kill Goldman and the heroes don't know which of the survivors, which number about a dozen, are the bad guys.
There was a lot going on here and, crammed into the length of a TV episode, it's not dull, with the further reveal of a secret 3rd helper to the 2 assassins (James McEachin and perennial seventies bad guy William Smith). Some of the action towards the end, however, was murky - perhaps rushed - I wasn't sure what happened to Smith's character. Jo Anne Worley, famous back then as a comedian, plays one of the passengers. BoG's Score: 6.5 out of 10
Bionic Trivia:
another female passenger was played by Laurette Spang, who would later be a regular on the Battlestar Galactica series in 1978.
