episode #09: The Battle
THE BATTLE episode #9, first season / Air Date: 11/16/87
written by Herbert Wright, Larry Forrester; Directed by Rob Bowman
It didn't take long to return the Ferengi to a TNG episode - unfortunately. In this one, a meeting with them is supposed to be on peaceful terms, though Picard is having inexplicable headaches; maybe it's the pressure of waiting for the Ferengi to make a move but there's also dialog hinting that such things as headaches no longer plague mankind. So, which is it? Dr. Crusher isn't much help here.
It turns out, the Ferengi have found Picard's previous command ship, The Stargazer! This ship was lost in a battle a few years prior, during a battle with Ferengi; during that one, Picard invented the now-famous Picard Maneuver to win it. One of the Ferengi harbors a grudge over this; this is atypical for a Ferengi, as there's no profit in personal vendettas. This Ferengi gives Picard a headache, more literally than usual.
