episode #16: Too Short a Season
TOO SHORT A SEASON episode #16, first season / Air Date: 2/8/88
written by Michael Michaelian, D.C.Fontana; Directed by Rob Bowman
An elderly admiral (Clayton Rohner) comes aboard in preparation for some negotiations on a planet where hostages have been taken; the admiral has experience with this planet. Though he's in the 24th-century version of a wheelchair, the admiral informs Picard that he will personally lead an away team; Picard seems to humor him. But, don't condescend too soon, Picard - this admiral has been taking a dangerous form of a youth serum and rapidly loses his advanced years.
TNG Trivia:
Michael Pataki, who plays the old admiral's old adversary here, also had a role as a Klingon in the TOS episode, The Trouble With Tribbles. This was the first actual Starfleet admiral we see on TNG. As with a few others, he wasn't too impressive. Oh, and, no Wesley in this one.
