Episode #170: Eye of the Beholder
EYE OF THE BEHOLDER - episode #18 of 7th season / Air Date: 2/28/94
written by René Echevarria (teleplay) Brannon Braga (story); Directed by Cliff Bole
This episode involves the frowned-upon social ritual of suicide, something which, I would venture, is rare in the 24th century, as the vast majority seem too motivated by various opportunities to get so depressed. That's why, when a crew member commits such an act, the other crew members are very surprised, even shocked. The victim also, to everyone's best knowledge, had no such depression. Troi and Worf are assigned to investigate. This was the episode that furthered their possible romantic connection, but how much here is real..?
TNG Trivia: this title was popular among TV series, including in the Trek franchise - the animated Trek Series also had an episode so titled (but with a completely different plot) and so did the old Twilight Zone show.
