Susannah York, an actress in many well-known films, has died after a battle with cancer, 1/15/11, at the age of 72.
During the early years of her career in the sixties, she became familiar to many fans as a strikingly attractive figure
with bright blonde hair and a mesmerizing smile. Her career continued strong into the seventies.

Ms. York's early big role was in the famous, hugely successful Tom Jones (1963); in the sixties, she then appeared in the survival adventure Sands of the Kalahari (1965), the classical drama A Man For All Seasons (66) and the dramas The Killing of Sister George (68) & They Shoot Horses,Don't They? (69). In the seventies, she starred in Altman's Images (1972), the adventures Gold (1974) and Sky Riders (1976), the horror thriller with sci-fi overtones The Shout (78) and the thriller The Silent Partner (78).

But, for sci-fi/fantasy enthusiasts, she will always be best known as the mother of Superman, Lara, in Superman (1978) and the sequel Superman II (1980). She also supplied her voice in Superman IV (1987). She also starred in the horror film The Awakening (1980).
