Episode #13 - Run, Steve, Run
Air Date: 4/26/74 written by Lionel E. Siegel Directed by Jerry Jameson
The robot maker from Day of the Robot, Dolenz (Henry Jones) is back! He hasn't built a new robot yet; in league with a crime boss (George Murdock), he intends to study Austin in order to gain the info for a new, improved bionic robot (a bionic robot..? ). He follows Austin around secretely, sabotaging elevators, as an example, to see Austin in action. He soon follows Austin all the way to a ranch in Utah, as Austin visits a friend (Noah Beery).
Unfortunately, this is also one of those episodes with multiple flashbacks to fill out the air time (this type of episode happened a lot with season-enders). Austin suspects that someone is watching him and thinks back on several past episodes (going back to Population Zero) in trying to figure out which of his past enemies is after him. Jones, as usual, is entertaining and Murdock is fine, and there's even some good action in the final act, but the flashbacks lower this unavoidably. Mike Henry, former footballer and sixties movie Tarzan, has a small role as one of the hoods. BoG's Score: 5 out of 10
Bionic Trivia: Dolenz calculates that Austin reached a speed of almost 62 mph to catch up to a horse and that he exerted a force equal to lifting 2,420 lbs. 6 feet off the ground during the elevator mishap. Henry Jones as Dolenz would be back in the 2nd season with a new robot in the episode Return of the Robot Maker; Mike Henry would also be back in another episode, the one with all the famous football players.
