Teenagers From Outer Space
One of the very low budget sf wonders of the fifties, somewhat impressive because (as detailed on Wikipedia) it was largely a one-man show: writer-director Tom Graeff also functioned as virtually the entire production crew, as well as acting in it as a reporter. And, it's not that boring, to his credit. In the plot, a crew of aliens plan to use Earth as a breeding ground for "Gargons" - lobster-like creatures which grow to a "million" times their original size. One of the aliens, Derek (David Love), objects to this plan and is forced to flee into the countryside. Another alien, Thor (Bryan Grant), is assigned to track him down and bring him back. Most of the film focuses on these two aliens and the local people they come into contact with (filmed in the L.A. area). There's a subplot about Derek actually being the son of the alien ruler and not knowing this.
The film actually generates some tension because the sadistic Thor - the bad alien - never hesitates to use his disintegrator gun at every opportunity. His first action, while climbing out of the spaceship, is to zap a local dog (a rather famous scene, played in trailers). This establishes his callous nature. Very soon after he begins his hunt for Derek - the good alien - he starts to zap people who annoy him (or endanger his mission; depends on your perspective). So, by the half-hour point, the audience is expecting every new person the alien runs across to end up as a skeleton. There's also a big gun battle with a squad of detectives. The two aliens are supposedly the titular characters, but they look like guys in their mid-twenties. The acting is, naturally, stiff and amateurish. BoG's Score: 4 out of 10
Alien Teen Trivia: VERY LOW-BUDGETED, ONE COST-CUTTING MEASURE WAS THE ATOMIC DISINTEGRATOR GUN, IN REALITY A HUBLEY'S DIME-STORE TOY THERE WAS ALSO THE SAME SKELETON USED FOR EVERY SCENE OF A PERSON GETTING DISINTEGRATED. ALSO - AN EPISODE OF MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 IN ITS 4TH SEASON...
