episode #24 - Jaime's Shield, Part 2
episode #11 of 2nd season / Air Date: 12/22/76 written by James D. Parriott Directed by Barry Crane
Continuing from part one, this naturally enters the 2nd phase of Jaime's assignment to the police dept. of Santa Regina: she graduates cadet school and becomes an actual cop on the beat. OSI still hasn't figured out who the female enemy agent is (though the audience knows at this point), so Jaime needs to continue in her role. That's the primary difference in tone and plot from the first part - the audience knows but Jaime & OSI are still in the dark. The villains soon set their sights on eliminating Jaime and another female graduate because they know that Jaime is also not what she seems. Soon enough, the goal of the villains is revealed - it has to do with a visiting dignitary (a similar plot turn on several 6MDM and Bionic Woman episodes).
This had a fair amount of action and suspense, the topper being in the final act, when Jaime looks sure to be blown up in a warehouse. The tension was overdone a bit - the hero cop (George Maharis) rushes to the warehouse to save Jaime but, since the doors are locked, spends a lot of time running around outside the warehouse, calling for Jaime. The ticking bomb should have gone off by the time he finally spotted Jaime through a broken window and the whole scenario seemed false - why did the female villain state that he didn't have enough time to get to Jaime? He certainly had more than enough time. Earlier, during her stint as a cop, Jaime avoids using her gun with some cute bionic tricks, like flinging a trash can lid and also the gun itself. The conclusion in the police station was pretty satisfying. BoG's Score: 7 out of 10
