The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
This sequel to the initial 2005 film had the opportunity to interpret Jack Kirby spectacle on film and there was no reason not to fully realize Galactus and the Silver Surfer as they were meant to be seen > - and it seemed the ideal time to do so, what with CGI now available to filmmakers. Think of it - Kirby's version of God, with state-of-the-art computer FX. Instead, the filmmakers were at a loss. The big takeaway from this film version is uncertainty - no one responsible were sure how to proceed and they ended up with now-infamous giant cloud as the only interpretation of Galactus (saving the reveal for another sequel that never happened?). Hell, they could have simply adapted the famous Galactus Trilogy from the books, page for page, word for word - there's a reason that first cosmic saga from Marvel Comics is so well regarded. But, most of the film is just as lightweight as the 2005 film. BoG's Score: 5.5 out of 10
Rise of Trivia: though the Surfer's form was played by Doug Jones via motion capture, the voice was provided by Lawrence Fishburne; besides the halfhearted attempt at adapting The Galactus Trilogy from issues #48-50 (1966), this film entry also adapts some of FF Annual #3 (1965), the famous wedding of Sue & Reed; Stan Lee cameos as a wedding guest turned away from the wedding, just as he was in the original comic book version - at the end of the story in the annual, Stan & Jack Kirby are refused entry by Nick Fury.
