#41: African Connection
Air Date: 10/29/77 written by William Schwartz Directed by Alan J. Levi
Jaime's African Adventure: she's already there as the episode begins, trying to find the guide she was supposed to meet, but she's told by a local that he died the other day in some fiasco blow-up. She ends up teaming with this local, an old reprobate (Dan O'Herlihy) who keeps trying to squeeze more money out of her for his transport service. Overall, this seems like a retread of the 1st season episode, Angel of Mercy, in which Andy Griffith played the old grouchy guy. This briefly throws in some commentary on race relations - Jaime meets up with an old college chum who is now about to be elected President of this small African nation; at one point, Jaime is accused of being racist, that quality of lowered expectations. But, her friend doesn't know that Jaime's supposed superior attitude stems from her bionic abilities. Again, Jaime has to show someone what she can do. BoG's Score: 6 out of 10
