UNDERGROUND - episode #4 / production #11 / Air Date: 10/20/68
written by Ellis St. Joseph; Directed by Sobey Martin
The title of this one refers to a Freedom Underground society on this giant planet that fights against the totalitarian government. The littles get mixed up in the plans of a leader of this organization (played by John Abbott). They are first contacted by someone who claims to be a captain of another Earth ship who is getting ready to head back to Earth. Everyone rejoices, except Capt. Steve (the usual story), who is suspicious based on a couple of things he caught which were 'off' to him. Of course, it was a trick. The giant professor / underground leader forces some of them to infiltrate a government building to burn a key letter.
The story offers the unique scenario of having one of the littles (Fitzhugh) getting delivered inside a small package into the building - this now seems the obvious way to go, but it's a unique method to get inside a guarded building. However, the whole purpose of this is defeated when the others sneak in using more conventional means - so what was the point? The episode slows in the 2nd half, though there are some unusual giant sets when the littles are in that secured building. BoG's Score: 5 out of 10
Giants Trivia: Star Trek TOS actor alert:
Abbott also played one of the Organians in the episode Errand of Mercy of that series.
