Killers From Space (1954)

What's Happening: Popping-eyed aliens hypnotize scientist to help them destroy Earth
Famous For: Directed by Billy Wilder's brother
You know there's little of worth here when the movie's claim to fame is the director's brother. Bill Warren (and, indeed, every other commentator I came across) considers this a routine unimaginative 1950s cheapie. But the theme of an innocent Earthman abducted by aliens, subjected to invasive tests, brainwashed, then able to recall things later under hypnosis... this theme is an important one in SF and thus gives the movie some worth. More importantly, the middle "green tinted" third is good for camp . Take the movie seriously and you will be annoyed at the silly eye makeup on the aliens; as Warren notes, the eyes are obviously ping pong balls cut in half with irises drawn on them. Take it as a joke and you will chuckle with glee. The same can be said of the back-projected stock footage of lizards, toads, spiders, and grasshoppers. Take them as a joke and you can pretend you're watching a Wild Kingdom insect special with Peter Graves running frantically in the foreground.
