episode #52 - Treasure of the Lost Planet
episode #52 / Air Date: 3/1/67 (episode #23 of 2nd season)
written by Carey Wilber; Directed by Harry Harris
This features the return of Cap'n Tucker (Albert Salmi) from the first season episode The Sky Pirate - ahhr! He's found tied up by Will and is soon bunking with Dr. Smith at the ship; the Robinsons consider Tucker a friend - sort of. There's also a mechanical head that keeps following Smith around, saying "Good Evening." Then, other pirates show up - 3 of them; one is more-or-less human (though he eats laser blasts for breakfast); another has a green reptilian look; and the 3rd is a biped bull or bison-like creature (last seen as a huge toy in The Toymaker episode). They're named Smeek, Deek and Isruland.
There's also some competition between the Robot and Tucker's mechanical parrot, though the metal bird seems to have an edge over the Robot.
It turns out that the mechanical head will lead anyone who is greedy enough to a hidden treasure. Who is more greedy than Smith? Tucker is in league with the other pirates to find that treasure; thing is, the path to the treasure is filled with death traps. But, that's one way to get rid of a couple of troublesome space pirates. Ahr! A mildly diverting episode, with the rare return of a past guest star. BoG's Score: 5 out of 10
Epilogue Tag: Smith is chased by a ruby-eating white Yeti-like monster; he escapes, but then he, Will and the Robot encounter the sudden appearance of an android... freeze frame!
