Episode #28, segment 1 - The After Hours
#28a: THE AFTER HOURS (episode #4 of 2nd season)
written by Rockne S. O'Bannon based on Rod Serling's teleplay Directed by Bruce Malmuth
This was a REMAKE of an original TZ episode; in the original, a woman played by Anne Francis (Forbidden Planet) encounters strange doings in a department store in the late hours. In this redo, the role is played by Terry Farrell (later a regular on Star Trek DS9). She hurries into a large shopping mall as it's closing, as if in a rush to buy something, but we soon find out that this was all a sinister compulsion to return to her true nature.
This ends up almost as a parody of the original version; whereas the original was an effectively surreal, noir-style exercise in perceived paranoia, illusion and self-delusion, this one is over-the-top and too obvious. If one is aware of the original, this one becomes utterly pointless. If you're not, you'll probably find it silly. Farrell is watchable, however, hinting at her TV star quality-to-be. BoG's Score: 4 out of 10 BELOW: Ann Wedgworth with a knife
