Attack of the Giant Leeches

Overall a slow, quite low-budget effort, with a few choice moments. This takes place in and near some Florida swamplands. Locals who venture into the swamp are captured (not killed) by new giant leeches which store them in an underground cave so that their blood can be slowly drained. It's later theorized that nearby atomic facilities probably caused these leeches to grow. The best scene is when a cuckolded husband forces his cheating wife (Yvette Vickers) and her lover into the swamp, intent on killing them; the hubby is bluffing, just meaning to put a good scare into them, but things do not go as planned.

The leech-suits are obviously men-in-monster-suits and it's never been more obvious than in one scene in the last third, when the supposed giant leeches are shoving a couple of victims into the cave area: when the scene began, it looked like some guy dressed in a funny costume, pushing the victim onto the rock surface; it took me a few seconds to realize that this was supposed to be a giant leech. The hero is the local game warden; there's also his girlfriend and her father, who is the local doctor. The sheriff, however, is close to being the villain of the piece and only gets a reality check when the leeches are finally revealed to him in the last 10 minutes. BoG's Score: 3 out of 10
