Episode #09: The Passenger
THE PASSENGER (prod.#409; first season) Director: Paul Lynch
written by Morgan Gendel, Robert Hewitt Wolfe and Michael Piller
This episode suggested the nefarious means by which a future version of a diabolical serial killer could further his ends, using 24th-century technology. It was a little far-fetched for me, even for the 24th century, involving transferring consciousness to other bodies, but re-enforced the more dark tone of this Star Trek series. It was an interesting who-done-it type thriller, keeping the audience guessing, with some mystery until near the end.
ABOVE: Rao Vantika-a futuristic Hannibal Lector?
This also featured a conflict for Odo, who is challenged as head of security in this episode. Lt. Primmin (James Lashly) of Starfleet security first shows up here; he would pop up at least one more time. But, it wasn't a cliche here, such as Primmin being shown up as a fool - he proves to be competent (though he was less impressive in his next episode). I also noted some over-acting by Nana Visitor as Kira in this early episode. She's the prototypical angry Bajoran, as we all know, and overdoes it a bit. I'm guessing she improved later. BoG's Score: 6.5 out of 10
