episode #19 - Kill Oscar, Part 3
episode #6 of 2nd season / Air Date: 11/3/76 written by Arthur Rowe Directed by Alan Crosland
This continued from Kill Oscar, Part 2, which aired as a Six Million Dollar Man episode, in which the bionic heroes and OSI dealt with Dr. Franklin (John Houseman) and his Fembots. Therefore, Lee Majors as Steve Austin guest stars here, in almost as big a role as Lindsay Wagner. The story switches to a threat of worldwide proportions in this 3rd and final chapter. Franklin controls this weather machine and stirs up the weather from his island base. The top USA military brass meet to discuss counter plans; the conflict with Austin & Jaime is that Oscar, still Franklin's prisoner, will also be a target. It's left to the bionic duo, with the help of an elderly maverick admiral (Sam Jaffe), to actually invade Franklin's base to finally end the threat.
This 3rd part doesn't quite measure up to the first two, with some slow parts and a repetitive nature to the action, but it has the larger-than-life villain, sort a James Bond-styled nemesis from some of the bigger Bond pictures like The Spy Who Loved Me. The episode also has the feel of a bigger budget and a truly large scope. Towards the end, after a lot of running about on an island in the rain, there's stock footage from disaster pictures such as Earthquake (a dam breaks). This was the final crossover episode with the 6MDM series and the last team-up of Austin and Jaime until the Bionic Reunion TV movies in the eighties. BoG's Score: 6.5 out of 10
Bionic Trivia: the best scene is probably towards the end, with Jaime interacting with the pugnacious Franklin; this makes sense as Lindsay Wagner had acted in a film with John Houseman in 1973 - The Paper Chase - where she played his daughter; however, the two didn't interact in that film.
