One of many low-budget sf films in a post-apocalyptic setting after Mad Max 2 and Escape From New York set the tone for the eighties. Sandahl Bergman, just after her star-making role in Conan the Barbarian (82), plays the title character. This takes the H. Rider Haggard "She" novel into a dystopian future (remember the '65 film version starring Ursula Andress?) and she does indeed bathe in some pool to assure herself immortality in this version, after fighting her way through a strange gauntlet of adversaries. But, after that, this becomes a road pic of the future, as She and her right-hand sword maiden follow a couple of guys on their quest to find their stolen sister.
In this future, She is but one of several rulers who rule over the various bizarre sects which have arisen since the nuclear war (or "cancellation" as it's called here). Each sect has its own godlike figurehead, such as the one with the priests ruled by a guy who has telekinetic powers, his eyes glowing green each time he applies his talent. Though hampered by the obvious low budget, this one has occassional energy, innovation and downright weird concepts - most memorable is the goofball who instantly clones himself each time his arm is hacked off; it's non-sensical and nearly Monty Pythonesque, but undeniably unexpected in its charm. This climaxes with a few-against-many final battle.  BoG's Score: 6 out of 10
