Episode #73: Transfigurations
TRANSFIGURATIONS - episode #25 of 3rd season / Air Date: 6/2/90
written by René Echevarria; Directed by Tom Benko
This one is on the slow side, with an over-abundance of techno babble - both from La Forge and from the medical side of things via Dr. Crusher, but it has an interesting final act. Crusher has a bigger role than usual because she is treating a survivor of a crash landing which a landing party has found on an unknown planet. The survivor (Mark La Mura) has impressive regenerative abilities and soon reveals that he has healing powers he can use on others. But, he also has memory loss and doesn't know who he is. He also seems to be, according to Crusher, changing on a cellular level.
A funny Episode-in-Brief on a scene from this episode:
As an aside, John Doe also helps to raise La Forge's confidence level and, as a result, La Forge makes advances with a female crew member (played by Julie Warner) with whom he didn't have much luck with in a previous episode, Booby Trap. In an early scene, La Forge & Worf are in Ten Forward, talking about the lady in question. La Forge tells Worf not to look in her direction. Classic TNG dialog - Worf: "You must let her see the fire in your eyes." (as fans know, La Forge wears a visor over his eyes; the look on his face is priceless). btw, Worf ends up taking the credit for La Forge's confidence boost, due to Worf's tutelage on women.
