episode #09 - The Creed
THE CREED - episode #9 / production #9 / Air Date: 12/1/68
teleplay by Bob & Esther Mitchell; story by R.P. McDonagh; Directed by Sobey Martin
It's Barry's birthday (hence, the giant candle in the photo above). But, the kid isn't able to celebrate; he's been hit by appenticitis! It's acute and an operation is necessary! None of them are medical people but the captain will give it the ol' college try. First, though, they have to get into a hospital and get (steal) some ether. Some luck finally comes their way when they run into a doctor (Paul Fix) who is one of the few giants who is not interested in grabbing them for a reward. The same can't be said for a greedy janitor, though.
But, all the doc wants is for them to translate a medical book from Earth, found in a previous crashed ship. The book is in German, which Fitzhugh understands. In return, the doc will supervise the operation on Barry, with the help of a magnifying glass. Oh, this will be out in the middle of the woods. An average episode, kind of slow, highlighted by shots of the huge hospital corridors and some nice low angle shots. BoG's Score: 5 out of 10
Giants Trivia: Star Trek TOS actor alert - Paul Fix also played a doctor in the pilot episode of that show, Where No Man Has Gone Before; he preceded Dr. McCoy on that series.
