episode #26 - The Chase
THE CHASE - episode #26 / production #26 / Air Date: 4/20/69
teleplay by Arthur Weiss and William Welch; Directed by Sobey Martin
This one had a strange story structure: it begins with Kobick (Kevin Hagan) already having captured 3 of the little people beforehand - Fitzhugh & the 2 women - how they were caught is not shown. He keeps them in this triangular structure with electrified poles (hi-tech, that). Later, Capt. Steve and Mark are captured when the house they are using to phone from is surrounded; Dan hides as the 2 are captured - but none of this is shown; Dan relates this to the others. I dunno what connection this shorthand had to this being the last episode of the 1st season.
In the plot, Kobick enlists the help of the little people against some giant counterfeiters who have been outsmarting the state. This involves much of the scenes in some underground piping as Steve & Mark are basically on a mission for Kobick, who, of course, cannot be trusted. The episode has a lot of action at the start and the climax, but slogs down in the big middle. However, there was a familiarity between Kobick and the little people by this point which was unusual - again, kind of late in the series. BoG's Score: 5.5 out of 10
Giant Threat: a possum (which is supposed to be a rat, I think) - it growls like a leopard
