episode #22 - Act of Piracy
episode #9 of 2nd season / Air Date: 11/29/74 written by Peter Allan Fields Directed by Christian Nyby II
A more exotic-style episode: Austin is on a boat in the Caribbean, in charge of having Earthquake sensors placed on the ocean bottom, when one of those fictional hostile countries over there decides to act up. Austin is presumed killed in the diving bell and the rest of the ship's crew are taken as spies. One glitch in Austin's planned rescue is that one of the crew is a traitor and in on the whole subterfuge; Austin does show a clueless side here: while all the others are imprisoned, the traitor is enjoying the local library, seemingly carefree, yet Austin sees nothing suspicious in this.
This episode harkens back to sixties plots like those on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea or the more contemporary Mission:Impossible, showcasing a dastardly foreign country and its ruthless military. Most of the plot is about rescue and escape. It's average in that respect. And, Austin rescues the main two guest characters - but what happened to the rest of the crew? But, the young lady is cute - I didn't see her in much of anything else after this, though. BoG's Score: 6 out of 10
