The Body Stealers (1969 UK)
Military paratroopers on training exercises are disappearing in mid-air! George Sanders & Maurice Evans are top-billed as General and Doctor, but the central role is played by Patrick Allen as a specialist investigator named Bob Megan called in to solve the mystery. Neil Connery (Sean's brother) co-stars as the other man on the case and the one who called in Megan. Megan, who is the ultimate ladies man, meets a blonde woman on the beach and, though he is clueless, the audience knows right away that something is up with her. Eventually, Megan decides to try the parachute jump himself, but he just ends up hospitalized for his troubles. The culprits are aliens who have a problem with a plague on their planet and I think the kidnapped personnel were meant to help stop this plague. It's all quite routine - from Tigon Pictures - as well as predictable and anticlimactic. However, it's watchable. BoG's Score: 5 out of 10
Trivia Stealers: Shelagh Fraser plays an amorous inn proprietor here; she later played Luke Skywalker's aunt in Star Wars (77); the alien spaceship at the end is a reuse of the one from Daleks:Invasion Earth 2150 AD (1966)
