episode #01, segment 1: Shatterday
SHATTERDAY: written by Harlan Ellison; Directed by Wes Craven
The very first new TZ story to air features future Moonlighter & Die-harder Bruce Willis in an early role. Ellison wrote about the concept of self-improvement and human fallibility taking on a physical tangibility; it's based on his own short story from a decade earlier. Willis plays a shallow soul who accidentally dials his own phone number while in a bar and is suddenly talking to himself. Is he simply out-of-his-mind drunk? The impression is that his character's private demons and self-loathing have materialized this 'other' self. It's talky and not all that profound. BoG's Score: 5 out of 10
